The Pine Valley Community Museum is conveniently located next to Heritage Square in the heart of downtown Halfway in the same building as Halfway City Hall.
The museum includes numerous exhibits showcasing the community’s Gold Rush, and agricultural history. Exhibits include several displays from historic businesses, a country kitchen, native American artifacts, and antique farming equipment.
There is also an outdoors historic park exhibit featuring the areas first public school, Halfway’s original jail, and a pioneer smokehouse all dating to the late 19th century.

The Pine Valley Community Museum is conveniently located next to Heritage Square in the heart of downtown Halfway in the same building as Halfway City Hall.
Officially incorporated in 1972 and receiving its IRS designation as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 1991, the Pine Valley Community Museum was established “…to foster an understanding and appreciation of the history of the individuals, families, businesses, and organizations of northeast Oregon’s Pine Valley and surrounding areas.” After occupying several different locations over its first years, the Museum moved into its current location in 1985 where today.
The museum includes numerous exhibits showcasing the community’s Gold Rush, and agricultural history. Exhibits include several displays from historic businesses, a country kitchen, native American artifacts, antique farming equipment, telephone switchboard, calculators, musical instruments, (including two 19th century pump organs), a radio collection and a dental office with pedal-powered drill, and much more.
On the grounds are the first Halfway city jail building, the first (log) schoolhouse built in the valley, and a pioneer smokehouse, along with a horse-drawn carriage and two early engine-powered logging saws. All of these are available for visitors’ education and enjoyment.
We also feature extensive information on the former gold mining town of Cornucopia 11 miles up into the mountains above Halfway, family albums, local cemetery records.
We offer admission to the museum at no charge, though donations are gratefully accepted.
Books, DVDs & Reproductions -
Books on the history of Pine Valley and Cornucopia, as well as DVD’s of our recently completed documentary, “Golden Cornucopia” (2024), are offered for sale at the Museum and online.
For a reasonable charge, the Museum can provide printed reproductions of photos and printed documents that visitors find of interest and which may be legally reproduced.
The PVCM offers the Valley’s original log school house and the original Halfway jailhouse (1909), as part of the Museum’s outdoor historical displays.
In addition to these outdoor displays, the Museum is pleased to offer a wide-ranging collection of historical items, including kitchen equipment, a dental office, pump organs, calculators and typewriters, radios and phonographs, telephone switchboard, preserved wild animals, mining equipment and financial records, photo albums (including family, area, dam-building and mining), clothing displays, Native American artifacts, and a whole section dedicated to the once booming gold mining town of Cornucopia and the surrounding mountains.
